K'nex
Remember Legos and parents wondering how anyone could spend so much time building these structures that miraculously kept children engaged? K’nex has taken the model-building of Legos to the next step by developing classroom sets of models that integrate hand-on learning, experimentation, and investigation, as well as facilitating the development of problem-solving skills while making concepts applicable to the real world.
Working as a team to build fully-functional models, students learn to visualize, collaborate, and solve challenging problems. Once their models are constructed, students learn to investigate concepts, experiment, and think creatively while executing hundreds of standards-based activities from corresponding curriculum materials. K’nex kits are available in both science and mathematics for early childhood, primary, intermediate, middle, and high school levels. These materials are standards-based and inquiry-based, and will capture the imagination, as well as the reasoning power, of children, youth, and young adults.
Training for using K’nex kits is available at the Institute or on school premises. Home schools and charter schools will particularly find these materials appropriate as mixed age groups can work together and learn the same concepts at appropriate levels through the following kits:
