History
StaffCAIMS is housed at the Penn State Capital College campus in Middletown. Administrative offices, classrooms, and laboratories are located in the Olmsted Building in the West Wing on the third floor. A newly enhanced classroom with laboratories is currently under construction. Renovations include addition of state-of-the-art instructional equipment and quality instructional materials.
Included in the new instructional equipment is a mobile wireless computer lab, a teacher work station capable of reading both Mac OS and Windows media, a wall-mounted SMARTboard tied into the teacher computer workstation, a classroom set of Palm Pilots for use with science probeware, and an Elmo visual presenter.
The facilities also include a resource center, located on Alumni Drive. This center is both a staging area for processing science materials available for school rental and a curriculum library open for browsing.
New instructional materials include
- A classroom set of probeware and curriculum relevant probes; these enable students to collect data and analyze it in real time using the Palm Pilots and/or computers
- A classroom set of TI-15 Explorer calculators and TI presenter interface, a site license to Geometers' Sketchpad and Fathom software, and an Ellison die cut machine and dies to create mathematical models and manipulatives
- An instructional software library and software that enables the instructor to monitor all student screens and to capture any student screen for projection for instructional purposes such as error analysis and divergent problem-solving
